Meet our school counselor, school psychologist, and social worker and learn about our school counseling program
Hello West Springfield Elementary! We are your Mental Health & Wellness team (aka your Family Support team). That includes our two counselors, school social worker, and school psychologist. We know things may be a little different this year but we are so excited to get to know all of you and work with you this year. As a team we are here to support our school, staff, and families. Please feel free to reach out to us if there’s anything we can do to support you. Go Mustangs!
- School Counselor, ES
Greeting Mustangs! I am the full-time counselor at WSES. This is my second year at WSES and I am thrilled to be back. I started in FCPS in 2005. I took time off to raise my kids and have been back for 3 years. I am originally from New England and get back with my kids as often as we can. I am a mom of 4. One in high school, 1 in middle and twin 6th graders. They keep me very busy with their travel sports and activities. When I’m not running them around I love to ride, relax with friends and family. Also love time at the beach and mountains with my kids. We all love to ski.
- School Counselor, ES
Hi Mustangs! This is my second year as the part-time Counselor here at WSES. I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing community. I will be at WSES Tuesdays (12-4), Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This is my ninth year as a school counselor for FCPS. I am originally from the area (Annandale HS alum!) and went to Virginia Tech for undergrad. I got my Masters in Education and Human Development from George Washington University in D.C. I enjoy spending time with my family (my husband and two daughters), running, playing games, and baking.
As school counselors, we are here to deliver classroom lessons, small groups, one on one counseling and club activities that support the needs of all students. We collaborate with our teams, administration and parents to support our students development of the whole self, including a healthy balance of academic, mental, social/ emotional and physical well-being.
We have a Student Ambassador program to welcome new students, We are currently developing our Mentor Program both within the school and our local community.
School Social Worker
- School Social Worker
This is my second year as the school social worker at West Springfield ES and I’m excited to continue to be part of the Mustang family! I will be splitting my time between WSES and Hayfield Middle School. My days at WSES will be every other Monday, and all-day Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I am originally from the Northern VA area, and have been working in FCPS since 2010. I enjoy spending time with my family (including my husband and two daughters), traveling, and reading. I look forward to partnering together to make sure our students have a great school year!
School social workers:
- Serve as liaison between home, school, and community
- Link students and families to community resources to address issues such as poverty, chronic absenteeism, trauma, and child abuse
- Provide individual and group counseling to students
- Participate in student-centered meetings to address academic, mental health, and behavioral needs
- Provide crisis interventions to include conducting suicide risk assessments and threat assessments
I am new to West Springfield ES this year and am excited to be a part of the Mustang community! My days at WSES will be Monday mornings (7:30-11:30), Thursdays, and Fridays. I am an FCPS alumni, I attended Virginia Tech for undergrad, and trekked through the Massachusetts winters to attend Tufts University for graduate school. In my free time I enjoy taking my bulldog on playdates, visiting new places, and spending time with family and friends. As your school psychologist, I support your child’s academic, social, and emotional success. I encourage consistent family and school collaboration to uncover your child’s strengths and meet their individualized needs.
